YSP Alumni Directory
It is with great pleasure that we announce the launching of The Ohio State University Young Scholars Program Alumni Directory! We are contacting Scholars in an effort to create a directory that will remain in place for years to come. This directory will be used to help Scholars stay in touch with each other and the program, and to provide updates on current happenings with the program, mentoring opportunities, reunion activities and much more!

Young Scholars Program
The Ohio State University Office of Minority Affairs Young Scholars Program is a comprehensive pre-collegiate and collegiate program designed to enhance the academic, personal, and career development of its Scholars. Founded in 1988, YSP annually identifies and serves hundreds of academically talented first generation college students from economically challenged backgrounds.
In particular, YSP seeks to:
- To enhance the academic preparation of Scholars for success at The Ohio State University.
- To increase the numbers of first-generation, low income targeted underrepresented students at The Ohio State University.
- To complement instruction offered during the academic year.
The Young Scholars Program is designed to serve the needs of bright, urban young people who are willing to work hard to achieve their educational goals. The program assumes that there are large numbers of highly able students in Ohio’s urban communities. These students need nurturing, training and guidance to realize their full potential. Each year, many deserving students in Ohio’s urban centers cannot be served because of limited funds.
Once selected, scholars must agree to complete a college preparatory curriculum in middle and high school, one that gives them a solid foundation for college studies. Many of the Scholars work hard to maintain at least a B average, an overall grade point average of 3.0 or better, and thus enter college well prepared to succeed in whatever field of endeavor they choose.
